New price list from 1st Feb 2024

Hello Everyone,

As we head towards the end of the year, I’m reflecting on the year that’s behind us and the year ahead.

This email is in part a note of thanks, a newsletter and to let you know about my new price list for the Feb 2024. As I send these things out so infrequently, I feel like I’ve got a lot to fit in. If you’re short on time, please skip to the bottom to find the link for my new price list. I won’t be offended if you don’t read everything!

Firstly, a big thank you for supporting my small business this year, I’ve absolutely loved working with you in my studio space.  New clients mostly find out about me through a recommendation and thanks to all of you, I’ve been kept incredibly busy. So much so, that for now I have closed to new clients and my new client client waitlist is full! For now people can register interest here for when my waitlist re-opens.

News

In 2023 I’ve spent more time meeting other hairstylists than I have in the entirety of my career! As someone who works solo, this has felt really important as a way to stay up to date with changes within the hairdressing industry, to be uplifted and inspired by the work of others and to keep increasing my own skill set.

This year I’ve been integrating more of the OWay product and colour range into the studio. Oway are an Italian company who produce incredibly high quality hair products that are Organic & Biodynamic.

In September I traveled to Bologna, Italy to visit the OWay Biodynamic Farm. I was particularly impressed by their newest workshop which provides space for creatives (ceramicists, glass & wood workers) to design ways to use waste materials to create something new and beautiful.

Earlier in the year I participated in the OWay Ortofficina training to learn more about their farming and production methods. For those of you who are new to Biodynamic farming, here are a few interesting facts:

  • Biodynamic farmers are required to continuously improve the soil quality of their farms and to set aside a minimum of 10% of the farm for biodiversity.

  • A Biodynamic Farm is seen as a living organism. This organism is made up of many interdependent parts such as, fields, forests, plants, soils, animals and humans. Biodynamic farmers work to bring all these parts into harmony, managing them in a holistic way to support the health of the whole.

  • It’s slightly different to Organic farming, in that, Organic farmers can outsource fertilizers and solutions to problems that arise, whereas Biodynamic farmers seek to create solutions using what they have to hand on the farm itself.

New Price List from 1st Feb 2024

Next year, I’ll  be bringing in a new price list from the 1st February. I know some of you budget for your hair appointments, especially higher cost colour appointments. To acknowledge this, If you already have a colour appointment booked in with me, you’ll pay the current price up until end of Feb 2024. Please note that if you have a cut & colour booked together, the cut price will still increase to the new one on 29th Jan. If you need to adapt your appointment to fit your budget, let me know so we can discuss the options.

The prices include a  ‘green fee’ of £1-2 per service which enables me to be a member of the Green Salon Collective. GSC have created zero waste recycling systems for the hairdressing industry, recycling the previously unrecyclable. They collect your hair, foils, aluminium packaging and towels,  making sure that none of them goes to landfill. Via GSC, this year hair has been used:

  • By London based company Biohm to create particle board-like sheets as well as moulded 3D objects. Biohm are also working with mycelium, the root structure of funghi to grow it around hair to create insulation panels.

  • By the Natural Fibre Co, a British woolen mill in Cornwall to develop a hair- wool fibre alternative. The current blend is 40:60 hair and wool.

Find out about more ways your hair is being recycled here

This is more expensive than the average waste collection service, but I believe our planet is worth it!
